Super funds

Noel Whittaker | July 30 2008 | The Sydney Morning Herald & The Age (subscribe)

Wouldn't you be better off in a fund which had low returns now but had better performance later?

Q.

I don't understand why people make a fuss over the performance of their superannuation fund. If you have many years before you retire, a rise in your fund means you are buying additional units at a higher price. Wouldn't you be better off in a fund which had low returns now but had better performance later?

A.

I agree with you absolutely. This is why it is important to keep up your salary sacrificed contributions when the market is having a downturn.
